Film Reviews

A few years ago, I admitted that for all my love of movies, there was an insanely massive backlog of major films that I have never seen. Like famous, culture-influencing films. You can’t bring up that you love movies at a party and then admit that you haven’t seen “The Godfather”. So I decided that my 2018 New Year’s resolution would be to watch one new-to-me classic film, every week. I enjoyed this “resolution” so much that I have kept the project going, year after year!

To build my annual screening list, I generally start with AFI and BBC Culture’s “Best American Films” lists. Then, I mix in an especially artistic dose of films from CineFix video-lists. Finally, I pull from a few “best of” Action, Romance, Comedy, and Horror lists to provide some genere-balance. I try to alternate the list among decades, genres, directors, run-times, and holidays in order to create some variety.

To mark the time I commit to these films, I write a post-film summary of my impressions of the flick. A little film review, if you will. I initially just posted my thoughts on the Faceplace to get into fun back-and-forth tiffs with my friends when they disagree with my assessment. But as time has gone on, I found myself reviewing these posts to refresh my memory of a particular film, prepare for another film from a familiar director, or simply return to understand what past-me thought of a flick. And hence, this archive of reviews was born!

This is admittedly the least dressed portion of the site. It’s for me. LOL. But please, feel free to review some of my past-takes on classic movies!

Enjoy!
